Exploring every medium

Deciding is a process. Creating is the reward…

Choosing which process matches where my path meets my goals for the day? That’s where I find the challenge sometimes. So I took some time to explore the value in each art medium I use for wellness practices.

Here’s what I discovered:

Pastel has the most interesting sense of texture and control.

I can cover my surface with bold color and blend with my hands or utensils. I can layer and free-write or i can draw. The paper is forgiving and I can easily crumple it if the process calls for it.

Watercolor paints offer a unique sense of controlling the uncontrollable. The soft colors and water soluble blends inspire intuitive creations of all sizes. The paper is generally thick and supports layers of application. I often use a mix of mediums on my watercolor expressions.

Oil pastel glides with bold color and luxurious texture. The writing ability offers a unique feel when expressing layers of line, words and color swatches. The surfaces can vary from cardboard to canvas with smooth and texture areas. The best feature of this medium in an emotional expression is the ability to scratch out the layers and leave a design or words impressed in the final image.
