Here’s a little bright spot for your winter months!…listen to Jillian’s videos and try the lessons! During the 2021 still life workshop at LAC Studio Jillian taught, we designed many beginner skill building lessons and uploaded them with these sheets we designed! Now we can share them with you!!
In Class: The still life is set up in the private lesson room at the studio. Please take advantage of the opportunity this week before we dismantle the still life. Take pics, study live or take video…or all of the above!
At Home: Print the download and work on the lesson with any simple objects you have AND brightly lit.
Level up: Try this lesson using any drawing medium and attribute the colors that match your values.

Forget how to make a value scale? Making one is so much better for learning the importance of creating your values to achieve depth in your artwork.

JANUARY INSPIRATION KICKOFF:
Videos to watch to kickstart your creativity
PLANNING IS KEY!!!!
Our art comes from our ideas, what we observe, emotions or opinions we want to express. So where does our inspiration come from? All of these! But mostly from observation. So let's listen and watch as Ian Roberts breaks down how he takes a basic photo and "finds" his inspiration in the line, shadow and simple shapes. Ian is all about finding the simple shapes.
What topics will we be chatting about in class this week?....
We find inspiration with simple shapes and how can we express ourselves with simple shapes.
We explore the blend of sketches, thumbnails and boring photos!
We learn how to create a roadmap to get to the paint quicker.
Keeping inspiration alive!??....how can we do that as artists?
.

JANUARY PROCREATE LESSON
There’s been lots of interest in learning how to use the IPad and a program called: Procreate.
Early January Sandi offered a brief tutorial at the studio and students were blown away with the uses for this program as it pertains to their art making!
Here are a few things we learned:
Store all your photo references in one spot! No more phone, facebook or Pinterest “rabbit holes”!
Keep your notes and planning in one file!
The features include: easy palette planning, trace and enlarge, save & print, layers help try various composition and color options.
Take photos with your Ipad and you can trace over and over to practice drawing at any skill level.
