The studio is set up for anyone who may feel some anxiety about starting something new AND for those who just can't wait to start! The supportive, non-judgmental teaching philosophy offers students an opportunity to set their own pace and discover their own unique style, creative process and approach.

For almost 2 decades LAC has inspired 1000s of CNY creatives to explore their creative side. Some for a pursuit in the art field, some for therapy purposes and other just for fun.

History

Established in 2002.

The art center opened in 2002 as an art gallery representing 50 local artists and quickly began offering lessons in painting and drawing. Within 2 years our expansion lead us to a quiet corner very close to the beautiful setting of Onondaga Lake Parkway. The center currently offers classes and events to hundreds of students on a regular basis and we continue to offer more programs and services every year.

Drumming became a new addition the studio calendar in 2005 with the beginning of LAC Monthly Drum Circle. This wasn’t the average “bang a drum” gathering. Sandra was focused on building a community around music making and freedom to express how we feel with music and movement. Many teachers, mentors and friends have shaped the growth of the LAC Drum Community and we are happy to say that the growth continues with 30-40 plus drummers attending monthly.

2009 began our Creative Cafe’ classes (Paint Along Classes) which  were  very popular with families and friends looking to experience some fun, healthy activities together. Because our instructors are professional full-time teaching artists, LAC offered the only social painting class that offers guests an option to paint any image from our 30+ options. The class design maintained the the LAC teaching philosophies that encourage individualism and freedom of expression.

The blend of arts and art as a healing tool was a unique package for LAC staff. Our brand grew in new directions with a stong vision of building community and inspiring creative connections. 2015 marked the year that we offered more visiting teachers, new artist in residence and additional services. Expanding the teaching staff and adding a mentor-ship program inspired diversity in the studio and enriched our community outreach opportunities. This lead to a new adventure for our staff to begin travel teaching! Programs for Hire were launched across the east coast (both virtual and in-person).

The organizations and professional partnerships with Artistic Innovations VACC LLC and Liverpool Art Center included: alternative schools, mental healthcare centers and intensive outreach programs, hospitals and staff self care, college student self care events, and recovery from substance use disorder. The expansion into healthcare and education inspired a need for more teachers!

A big year for LAC and Sandra with her TEDx “The Art of Letting Go” and the 2018 launched the newly re-branded series of programs: Creative Rhythms. This series of expressive art, Rhythm wellness and meditation programs inspire connection and community. These two components are everything we love about growing this business.

2019 marked the great adventure into training facilitators who want to offer our programs. Check back for updates and more adventures still unfolding!

2020 brought our studio to a whole new level of connecting: Virtual Zoom Studio with LAC and Friends! When the world began searching for creative outlets while safe at home, we immediately launched weekly painting and drawing interactive classes to keep people connecting safely(virtually). The art studio in little Liverpool reached across the world in only a few days after going virtual and now we provide classes as fr as Paris, India and Italy! Our studio classes online and in-person are now being offered as a virtual/real time arts community center. Our training launched in 2019 now offers mentor-ship for teaching artists seeking a virtual/real time platform. Our community has grown and our reach is global while maintaining that same family sense of connection.

A note to new students,

Hello and welcome to our little studio. Most new students are a bit nervous when they begin. It's a little intimidating for anyone to try something new especially if you don't know anyone in the class. Our studio is designed for making people feel comfortable and supported. Some students come for relaxation more than producing a ton of artwork. Others come to progress in the arts and some come for the social aspects that we share in the studio. But no matter why you are interested in coming to LAC, we can offer you individual attention and plenty of encouragement.

Is there a special piece of artwork that you have always wanted to reproduce? we can help! And there's no need to buy any supplies before you start. We have all you'll need to begin. Then we can help you find just the right supplies to get you started and figure out where to buy the most for your money.

There's nothing in the world of painting and drawing that we can't face together!

So come on in and let's hop on this creative journey together.

 Your art family is waiting!

Sincerely, LAC Staff & Sandra Sabene (Creatively Yours<3)
